ISSUE 3 COMING OUT APRIL 2013

Hello, World!

Third Issue is finally out! We’ve taken our time to do some travelling around the Balkans spreading the Balcan word and doing some walls with writers featured and to be featured in the issues to come. Special thanks to our old and new friends who hosted us in Vienna, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Skopje, Sofia and Istanbul!

We have the absolute pleasure to share with you an outstanding how-to-do-it and how-to-keep-doing-it interview with NLS Crew from Bulgaria. A lot there for the kids to think about and definitely the right vibe for the rest of us. Celebrating their full 10 years of graffiti action, they are among the first generations of writers in the country, who’ve stayed very active over the years and kept burning their name around the world. A big influence on many kids in Bulgaria.

Second guest, Wyne, is a member of the Turkish S2K Crew. Wyne is among the oldest names in the graffiti scene in Turkey, an oldschool writer & DJ from Istanbul. Not a commercial artist and a genuine underground writer, you would rarely see photos of his work online. Wyne has kept developing his own semi-gothic letterstyle for over 15 years and shows no sign of betraying his dedication.

Our special feature on further areas of Balkan urban art introduces two very divergent female artists whose ideas and technique will find curious correspondence to street art imagery. Katja Kremenic is a photographer from Ljubljana, Slovenia, who spends a lot of time travelling and doing what she likes best: take photos. She has a great eye for catching the right moment on film that she later develops to display in exhibitions around Europe.

Cenin is among the top 100 contemporary surrealist artists of our time. She lives and creates her rebellious paintings in mind, womb, tomb and Istanbul. Cenin’s alter ego means ‘fetus’ in English.

A counterpoint to Cenin’s deeply intimate imagery is the decisively extrovert and expressive statement made by Strand, the biggest permanent outdoors exhibition in Eastern Europe. Some fresh photos from the opening graffiti project at this new venue.

Get ready for more action and spare no cans! Peace, respect and love to you all!

ISSUE 2 COMING OUT NOVEMBER 2012

Welcome to Balcans urban art and culture magazine, Issue 2! Day by day we are reaching out to more artists, more people who show a keen interest in graffiti and street art.

The new pages feature guest artist Lunar from Zagreb, Croatia. He has been painting for a number of years and has gradually developed his own distinctive style. We hope to be seeing some walls of his live soon. Until then, here are some flics.

Our other guests are the boys in the crew Four Plus from Bulgaria. Everyday their work gets to a higher level in style and ideas. More and more people follow their achievements - not only in graffiti but also in illustration and graphic design.

We are also bringing to you some visuals from cool events in the last summer. Balcans Graffiti Jam was the magazine promo which we organised after publishing the first issue of Balcans. It was a true graffiti get-together by the coast of Varna, Bulgaria. Many guests and local artists joined forces in what turned out to be a good wall done in a great atmosphere, with some extra swimming in the ferocious heat. The second event took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, and has already established its name over the years. This is the national graffiti contest known as Sprite Graffiti Fest 2012. Enjoy the pictures if you’ve missed the action!

Peace, respect and love to you all!
